Dr. Moshe Timothy Masonta
A Chief Research Technologist and Research Group Leader at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Pretoria, South Africa. Moshe has over 21 years of experience within the telecommunications and wireless communication technologies space, which includes leading a diverse team of scientists and engineers in the research, development, and innovation (RDI) sector. He has a proven track record in the entire RDI value chain: i.e. from concept development (ideation) at technology readiness level (TRL 1), through prototype development and to technology implementation (TRL 9) of wireless broadband connectivity solutions in developing communities.
Moshe completed an MSc degree: Electronic Engineering from Ecole Superieure D’Ingenieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronnique, Paris, France, (2010) and a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering: Telecommunication Technologies from Tshwane University of Technology (2016). He is a South African Representative of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Technical Committee 6: Communication Systems since 2018.
In 2020, he led a team of the CSIR experts on public awareness campaign to dispel the myths around 5G mobile telephony. Dr Masonta’s areas of interest and expertise are in dynamic radio frequency spectrum access and management, research methodologies, broadband community networks, circular economy and radio access network technologies.
